Are all fire retarding products the same?
The answer is no. Fire treated 2x materials, once cut are no longer fire retardant. Due to the alignment of the natural fibers of the wood, the fire retardant chemicals cannot penetrate to the core of the 2x materials.
Painted on Fire retardant material as well does not reach the center of the material. This is better as you can paint the cut areas giving a first line of defense against fire but once this burns through, there will be fuel for the fire. Plus Painting on the fire material is another step of labor cost for you.
However, due to the nature of plywood the fire retardant materials do reach the center of the wood materials per the UL evaluation report ULER7002-01.
Uses of econoblock
Econoblock is used extensively in commercial Metal stud applications. When installed behind the surface material panels Econoblock gives you superior screw retention in order to attach items such as: Mill work upper and lower cabinets, Rest room accessories, water coolers, televisions, and other wall-mounted items. (*) In applications where longer attachment fasteners are needed you can double up Econoblock to achieve the 1 1/2" nominal thickness(**).
